In 2012 Thyssen Mining was awarded the contract for engineering and construction of the Newmont Leeville Ventilation Shaft No. 3, the first shaft sinking project in Nevada to employ ground freezing techniques.

The project, which included the design and construction of the ground freezing and temporary shaft sinking facilities, shaft development including concrete hydrostatic liner, installation of shaft furnishings, and construction of permanent surface and underground facilities, was completed on schedule in 2016.
